After reviewing the distribution of sign-ups for the 2020 season, the Quidditch Premier League can confirm the hiatus of the Northern Angels, as well as hiatus of both the London Lions and the Eastern Mermaids for the 2020 season.
This means that each UK division will now have three teams for the 2020 season, with each team playing each other four times over the course of the standard three fixtures, preventing any reduction in games offered. While the format of the 2020 Championship is still being explored, we are currently hoping for a two-day, non-divisional structure, allowing for all 13 teams this season to play both days of the Championship weekend.
The London Monarchs and the Northern Watch will therefore select their teams in a normal manner, with no draft in place. Players residing in the East of England who would otherwise be eligible for the Eastern Mermaids will instead be eligible for a catchment area of their choice.
'It's always sad to place teams on hiatus, even temporarily as in this instance,' said Jack Lennard, Director of the Quidditch Premier League. 'These teams have been a fantastic part of the league, and we hope to welcome them back in 2021 or beyond!'
The Championship location will be unveiled very shortly, so get excited, and keep those applications coming in!
