Following careful consideration, the Quidditch Premier League has taken the difficult decision to suspend the 2020 season.
This decision has not been taken lightly, and has been made in the interests of keeping players safe by encouraging social distancing to limit opportunities for the Covid-19 virus to spread.
While it is true that the situation may improve by June, we cannot proceed with organising the 2020 season as planned if there remains significant risk to player health.
However, we are hopeful that we will be able to organise a QPL-based event for late-August 2020 should official advice change. We will be able to announce more details on this, and whether it is possible, on 10th June, 2020.
As a result, we will still be sending out acceptance emails to our players, and adding them to team Facebook groups should they wish to ‘accept’, as we would have in ordinary circumstances. This is partly so we can jump into organising a late-August event if it becomes possible, and also to provide an extra source of community and camaraderie during what are sure to be difficult times.
There will be an opportunity for additional player sign-ups to such an event, should the situation improve, after we are able to confirm it. No payment of any kind will be due until after we confirm on 10th June, 2020 whether such an event can take place. We are also hopeful to get the jerseys from this season available online for purchase - keep an eye out for news on that later.
It is now clear that all of us will have to make significant changes to our everyday life for the duration of this pandemic. We know that, in the scheme of things, the suspension of a sporting event is small compared to this worldwide impact. But we also know that, to many, this sport and this community are lights in dark times, and in that spirit we want to urge all our players and supporters to look after themselves, and, where possible, each other in the months ahead.
